Curve

That doesn't diminish the accomplishment of the Curve and the region's pride in supporting and celebrating our first Eastern League championship.

The minor-league relationship is unique in that the players only spend a year or two in a city before moving onto their next stop.wholesale New era mlb hatsThough they won the title in Trenton on Saturday night, most weren't back in town more than a day and have since returned to their homes so having a victory parade would likely only include the front office, Steamer and Diesel Dawg.

He brought the franchise here, but after a bitter legal dispute with his minority owner, the late Tate DeWeese, Lozinak sold the team to Chuck Greenberg.

Once there, their resolve was further tested, and they displayed the mettle of a champion. In both playoff series, first against Harrisburg and then Trenton, they fell behind only to regroup to win both best-of-five series in four games.

When they hit a losing streak, as all baseball teams do, they showed the character to regroup before the start of the EL playoffs.

The Best Quarterbacks In Football

At most, I only can see five quarterbacks being considered on the elite level in 2010. There are plenty of good quarterbacks in the league, but need to be held at a much different standard than we normally hold them to.

Point blank: Everyone has a different belief of the top quarterbacks in football. In today's world, the term elite is used more often than not, and it shouldn't be that way.

Matt Ryan jersey had a sophomore slump (battled injuries) and should return strong in 2010. Matt Schaub is my biggest sleeper of them all. I can see him as a dark horse MVP candidate this year. With Andre Johnson in his corner, he will find success in the passing game.

The next three look to be among the league's elite in a few years, but not right now. Joe Flacco is taking more control of the Ravens offense, especially with his new weapons.

Romo, Rivers, and Eli Manning need to have more success in the playoffs, period. Yes, Eli has a ring, but has not played anything like he did a few years ago when he led the Giants to victory.

Heading into the year, my views have changed on Brett Favre. He isn't in the elite category anymore. He is a very good quarterback, and a top one for sure. However, Father Time is catching up to number four this pre-season.

Now this is where my list gets bigger, and for good reason. These quarterbacks listed right above are either near elite status in the league right now, or are continuing to make progress as quarterbacks right now.

Very Good: Brett Favre, Tony Romo, Philip Rivers, cheap Eli Manning jersey, Joe Flacco, Matt Ryan, Matt Schaub

I am also becoming Aaron Rodgers's biggest fan. Sitting on the sidelines for the first few years of his career has helped him greatly. He also has all the great weapons to succeed. Biggest question will be if he can finally beat Brett Favre and have success in the playoffs.

Roethlisberger is probably elite in most people's minds. I just want to see how he responds after all the turmoil in the offseason. Bottom line: Big Ben makes the case of being the most clutch quarterback in the league right now.

On the cusp of being elite: Ben Roethlisberger, Aaron Rodgers

They are my only elite quarterbacks in the league. All have earned a ring, and have been near the top of the league statistically in recent years. Though guys are catching up to them, they are still cream of the crop, and ahead of the competition by a decent margain.

Elite: Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, Tom Brady

In a short, simple summary, here is how I would label my quarterbacks.

They are on their way for sure, but have plenty of work to do before being considered elite.

Yes, it is a very long list. I am not ripping Clayton in any way. In fact, he is one of the handful of journalists I still respect in this business. In my opinion, half of these quarterbacks aren't ready for the elite stage.

I am not going to share his entire article with you, but he does seem to see every quarterback as an elite one in this league: Both Manning's (Peyton and Eli), Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Joe Flacco, cheap Carson Palmer jersey, Aaron Rodgers, Ben Roethlisberger, Brett Favre, Philip Rivers, Tony Romo, Donovan McNabb, Matt Ryan, Matt Schaub.

When I took a look at the list, my thoughts were simple. He has an idea of who the best quarterbacks in the league are, but has a completely different viewpoint of the list.

Having never seen a list from Mr. Clayton, I came upon his for the first time today, as the leading story in the NFL section of ESPN.

In recent months, I have heard people criticize ESPN's own John Clayton for using the term elite way too much.

Many people consider all of the top ten quarterbacks as elite. In my opinion this is a ridiculous assumption.

When analyzing a quarterback, the term "elite" is being thrown around way too much nowadays.

Lately, I have been seeing an issue with the rankings of these quarterbacks. In fact, I'll even admit that I have been too generous with rankings.

The biggest topic of them all? Ranking the top quarterbacks in football. Who are the top ten quarterbacks in the league? That is one question constantly being asked.

The 2010 wholesale NFL jersey season is ten days away. Predictions and rankings are at its peak with sports bloggers everywhere.

Harbaugh wants less air time for opponents

"I was pretty upset about that, I still am," Stallworth said. "It's a matter of me holding onto the ball. It's not rocket science, just hold onto the ball. Negative plays happen unfortunately and you've got to move on. I forgot about it. Once the game was over, I was mad again." ... Ravens quarterbacks coach Jim Zorn, the former Redskins head coach who was fired after last season, got soaked with a bucket of Gatorade during the final minutes of the game Saturday. "It's kind of a tradition now," Harbaugh said. "I happen to look down there with 11 seconds left and Jim was getting drenched. That's a good thing."

QUICK HITS: The starters will play at least one half against the New York Giants jerseys on Saturday night, according to Harbaugh. He indicated that several starters will stay in the game into the third quarter. "I don't know what the Giants will do, but we've kept to our plan," Harbaugh said. "We'll do that again this week." ... Wide receiver Donte' Stallworth was upset about losing a fumble against the Redskins, but didn't dwell on the miscue. He caught a 25-yard pass and a 17-yarder.

Linebacker Brendon Ayanbadejo (quadriceps), Reed and running back Matt Lawrence remain on the physically unable to perform list.

Tight end Davon Drew (hamstring) and offensive tackle Stefan Rodgers (shoulder) returned to practice.

Also not practicing: Gaither (strained back), Cousins (concussion), Hale, safety Marcus Paschal (quadriceps) and offensive guard Daniel Sanders (shoulder).

"He turned his ankle, and he was just a little too gimpy to go," Harbaugh said.

INJURY UPDATE: Wide receiver Demetrius Williams had predicted that he would practice Monday despite a sprained right ankle, but sat out along with five other players.

"It's a concussion thing, so the doctors will be very cautious with that," Harbaugh said. "That's the nature of it. That's the right thing, so we'll just have to see how it goes."

He was carted off the field last week and has been wearing sunglasses due to sensitivity to light, a common symptom after a concussion. For now, Tony Moll is filling in with the first-team at right tackle.

Cousins had been starting at right tackle since Jared Gaither is out with a back injury.

COUSINS STILL SIDELINED WITH CONCUSSION: Offensive tackleOniel Cousins is still feeling the effects of a concussion suffered last week during training camp.

"Lot of rest and stretching and ice and heat, just trying to get everything loosened up," Hale said. "Everything is real tight."

Hale said he's not allowed to run or jog yet, but began riding the stationary bike today.

"It's healing up," he said. "It's a matter of time, I guess. I have no clue. It depends. I've never had this type of injury before."

Hale said the back is feeling much better, but doesn't know when he'll return to practice.

"It felt like everything shattered in my lower back," Hale said. "It was a weird feeling. I don't know how to describe it. It was a pain I've never felt before. It kind of freaked me out a little bit."

Hale was relieved to learn last week that he didn't suffer any structural damage to the back. It was a scary episode, though, where he was carted off the field after being down on the ground and barely moving for almost 10 minutes.

HALE EXPECTS TO PLAY THIS SEASON: Reserve offensive lineman David Hale expects to play football again this season after bruising his tailbone last week during a collision with Pro Bowl defensive tackle Haloti Ngata.

"He said he feels good about his progress," said Harbaugh, adding that he spoke with Reed during the cheap Redskins jerseys game. "We don't have details. It's hard to say how it's going to continue to improve. Based on the conversation I had with him, he's happy with his progress."

Reed has been traveling back and forth to Atlanta to visit his rehab doctor and is making progress, according to team officials.

ED REED UPDATE: Star free safety Ed Reed remains on the physically unable to perform list after undergoing an offseason procedure on his hip.

"I gunned it down there," Reed said. "It was good to make a tackle on a kickoff. I can play special teams. I can do whatever they want me to do."

Reed aso recorded a tackle on a kickoff, tackling Terrence Austin following an 11-yard return.

Added Harbaugh: "When you see a guy struggle at times in practice and then step up in the game, that's a good thing."

"I had an OK training camp," he said. "I wanted to come out and show them what I really can do."

His status was in doubt after a rough camp.

A fifth-round draft pick from Utah, Reed is competing with Demetrius Williams and Marcus Smith for the fifth receiver spot.

"I'm very happy," Reed said. "It was great to help the team out any way I can. It was unbelievable. Marc is a great quarterback. He put the ball on me and I made the catches. It was pretty routine."

His top reception was a 22-yard catch, also hauling in passes from five, six and five yards.

He caught four passes for 38 yards during a 14-play, 94-yard scoring drive engineered by backup quarterback Marc Bulger.

MAKING PROGRESS: After an erratic training camp where he dropped several passes, rookie wide receiver had a breakthrough game against the Redskins.

"They got some chunks on some plays that they made," Harbaugh said. "Some of it was the way we play our two-deep coverage. Some of it was the way we play our quarters coverage. We've got to work on a couple things out there. I think that's what preseason is for. We don't want to give up that many yards passing at all."

The Ravens didn't allow any touchdowns, though, and cornerback Cary Williams intercepted cheap McNabb jerseys once.

And wide receiver Anthony Armstrong got behind strong safety Dawan Landry for a 45-yard fly pattern over the middle.

"The linebackers, we have guys that can cover, no question about it," Harbaugh said. "I'm not worried about that at all. I think we've got a lot of coverages in there that are different than what we did last year."

Jameel McClain was nearly beaten for a touchdown by tight end Fred Davis, but he dropped an accurate pass in the end zone.

Redskins tight end Chris Cooley did some damage working against linebacker Tavares Gooden for a first down.

"The passing yards are a concern obviously," Ravens coach John Harbaugh said. "When I stood up there after the game, I didn't realize they threw for that many yards against us because I felt like we were playing pretty well for the most part."

In particular, the Redskins exploited the middle of the Ravens' secondary with touch passes over the linebackers' heads.

By the end of the game Saturday night, they had surrendered 365 passing yards with 206 piled up by quarterback Donovan McNabb in the first half of the Ravens' 23-3 win at FedEx Field.

The cheap Baltimore Ravens jerseys allowed far too many yards through the air against the Washington Redskins.

Honorable mention of Fantasy Football 2010

In 2009, Moss, Arizona's Larry Fitzgerald jerseys and San Francisco's Vernon Davis  led the league with 13 receiving TDs each. Of those three, Moss is the most likely to have a repeat in his production. Fitz will be catching passes from Matt Leinart who hasn't started since 2007 and while Davis had a career year in 2009, he hasn't shown much consistency over his four seasons. Davis also doesn't make this list because he's a TE.

Drafting a team's QB and top WR can pay huge dividends as it did in 2007 when Patriots jerseys signal-caller Tom Brady threw 50 TD passes, a record 23 of them to Randy Moss.

Honorable mention

Matt Leinart/new Larry Fitzgerald jerseys, ARI – Fitz has all the talent in the world, but Leinart is going to have to shake off the rust and forget about his failed sophomore season in order to get these two back in the top 10. Projected 12 TDs

Aaron Rodgers/Greg Jennings, GB – Everyone expects Rodgers to go bananas this season, but with a ton of weapons around him, the touches and scores will be spread among a few players including Jennings, WR Donald Driver and TE Jermichael Finley. Projected 9 TDs

Philip Rivers/Vincent Jackson, SD – If Jackson wasn't planning a holdout, these two would be top 10. Projected 7 TDs

Chad Henne/Brandon Marshall, MIA – Marshall has caught 100 passes for three straight seasons and caught 10 TD passes last season, but with a new team and a young QB, I wonder if he can get back to that level. He should be able to get there, but we'll have to see. Projected 7 TDs
Carson Palmer jerseys/Chad Ochocinco, CIN – The longtime teammates were top 10 last season and could be again in 2010, but with added weapons around Palmer, the TDs are sure to be spread around. Projected 7 TDs

Jay Cutler/Johnny Knox, CHI – Don't sleep on these two in the Mike Martz offense. Knox caught five TD passes last season without starting a game, but will likely be a starter this season. Martz loves speed and Knox has plenty of it. Consider these guys the wildcard of the list. Projected 7 TDs

A participant’s breakdown

11:4 DT Minnesota Vikings jerseys:  This was an autopick made by the system. Not realizing it, I must have clicked on the autopick status. I'm not sure how it happened. I was playing with the new software to test its ability to choose players and put them in an autopick mode. The truth is, I had not selected a player, so I believe when my pick came, the program just selected the system's highest-rated player. In the end, it's my fault.

I didn't ask to roll back the software because if you don't make the pick within the time limit, either lose it, or let the system autopick. In my case it was slightly different but still my fault, and I can live with those rules – something some of my peers don't like to do during online drafts! For the record, I can't remember drafting in an "experts" league that hasn't for one reason or another had to roll back a pick. I've done hundreds of leagues and/or mock drafts. What does that say about the average fantasy player?

Others targeted: None

12:9 WR Demaryius Thomas, Denver Broncos jerseys: Nothing but a flier pick that I saw had fallen below his average draft position (ADP). Since I drafted Eddie Royal, I felt, "Why not?" Thomas is one of the bigger wideouts in the league at 6-foot-3, 229 pounds, is a vertical threat that can get downfield and has a shot to start. Come on, if anything he should be able to outmuscle some of the smaller defensive backs in the league. I like this throwaway pick because the team has to fill the Brandon Marshall void now, not later.

Others targeted: I was desperate for a backup quarterback and was going to take QB Vince Young (Tennessee Titans jerseys), but he went right before my pick.

13:4 QB Matt Cassel, Kansas City Chiefs: He was not who I wanted, planned on taking nor even had on my radar. He was about all that was left.

Others targeted: Backup quarterback at this point! I saw QB Matt Ryan (Atlanta Falcons) drop unexpectedly into Round 10 and then Vince Young in Round 12, but I lost out on both right before my picks. Outside of Cassel, I considered Jason Campbell (Oakland Raiders), and even though I'm rooting for him as a fan, Campbell's skill set has been more potential than actual proven commodity. I went with a team that should throw a lot in Cassel's Chiefs.

14:9 WR Bernard Berrian, Minnesota Vikings: He's in a logjam in Minnesota with the emergence of Sidney Rice, the outstanding hybrid play of Percy Harvin and touchdown-vulturing tight end Visanthe Shiancoe. However, don't forget, Rice has been injury prone, Harvin suffers from migraines that affect his play and Shiancoe is not a big reception and yardage guy. All that, combined with the fact Berrian is finally 100 percent healthy and a starter, means opportunity. That's what makes him worth a late-round flier. Let's see what a healthy Berrian can do.

Others targeted: None

15:4 WR Anthony Gonzalez, Indianapolis Colts jerseys: I didn't like this pick despite the fact he'll be given a shot to compete for the starting job. He's a flier that you hold onto for a little while to see how the wide receiving corps shakes out. He's merely depth and a bye week fill-in if he manages to escape the fantasy Turk. In the end, I feel he'll be the odd man out in the wideout battle to start but, like Berrian, makes for a late-round flier/throwaway pick.

Others targeted: I regret not taking Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Derrick Ward here. Hindsight is 20/20, but I was disappointed with myself here for forgetting about him. I was too focused on my WR corps and believe Ward could be a pleasant surprise this year.

Terrell Owens, WR
Owens has built a longtime friendship with Chad Ochocinco and is developing a new one with Carson Palmer jersey. That certainly helps things initially if he was to come to town.

On the field, Owens is a player whose skills are declining. In Cincinnati, he would likely assume the role of the No. 2 wide receiver, playing opposite Ochocinco. It's possible he could also be part of an undesirable No. 2 wide receiver platoon with Antonio Bryant. That would be a nightmare for their collective fantasy values.

Either way, the 1,000 yard seasons we've come to expect would be pretty difficult for him to achieve. He'd be a good red zone threat for sure and help keep some pressure off Ochocinco. That's pretty much the most we could hope for.

Ochocinco may be expecting Batman to come, but Owens is much more Robin at this point.

Carson Palmer, QB
You have to figure the relationship with new Owens jersey is in pretty good shape if they're already working out together.

The problem with Owens is never what happens when things are good, it's the downward turns that frighten you.

On paper, the addition of Owens would help solidify the wide receiver corps and add another weapon for Palmer, making him an even better No. 2 quarterback in fantasy.

In reality, Carson has been struggling with his accuracy, especially on the deep throws. If that continues, we could see some serious fireworks with Owens in stripes. T.O. typically doesn't behave well when his quarterback is missing him on throws.

Chad Ochocinco, WR
Ocho would still be the No. 1 wide receiver for this offense. In fact, Owens' presence would likely help his value more than hurt it. The constant double teams are getting old for sure. Owens would help alleviate them.

Ocho has been longing for an effective No. 2 wide receiver since TJ Houshmandzadeh left for Seattle and T.O. would be a welcome addition if Bryant isn't healthy enough to contribute the way we expected.

Antonio Bryant, WR
Signing Owens would be the strongest indication yet that Bryant's knee isn't healthy. Regardless of the way the new Bengals jerseys may want to spin it, this would be a major red flag to Bryant's value in fantasy leagues. If he was 100 percent, it's hard to believe the Bengals would sign T.O.

Quite honeslty, the health of Bryant would become just as big a story as the Owens signing.

Andre Caldwell, WR
This would be a pretty brutal blow to his value and likely lead owners in dynasty leagues to let him go. That action would be tough to argue against.

Jordan Shipley, WR
Shipley's been a fast riser in dynasty leagues as of late. Owens coming to town likely wouldn't change his value that much as the possible slot receiver.

Ochocinco jersey and either Bryant or Owens would start on the outside, so Shipley's value wouldn't shrink too much.

Jerome Simpson and Matt Jones WR
You have to figure Dezmon Briscoe would likely enter the season as the sixth wide receiver. You'd also have to figure that Simpson and Jones would have a hard time making the club.

what is the tomorrow for the Cowboys?

The Dallas Cowboys jerseys face Texas-sized pressure to become the first team to enjoy home-field advantage at a Super Bowl when the NFL title game is staged at Cowboys Stadium in February.

Team owner Jerry Jones made it clear he was turning up the heat as never before when he announced a two-year extension for coach Wade Phillips after a late-season surge in 2009.

"I'm encouraged by the progress we made this year, but in no way are we satisfied. This contract represents that," Jones said. "Two years in the NFL is an eternity, but it has to be urgent. It has to be addressed as though there is no tomorrow."

He added he expected the Cowboys to "be knocking on the door" when Super Bowl XLV was contested in North Texas.

There is reason to think Jones' dream could come true. Dallas is loaded with talent and used 2009 to bury many of its demons. Instead of another late-season swoon, the Cowboys swept to the NFC East title by winning their last three regular-season games. They then drummed the Philadelphia Eagles jerseys out of the playoffs, securing the franchise's first postseason win in 13 years.

But the late-season charge ended as quickly as it had begun with a 34-3 defeat against the Minnesota Vikings in the divisional round.

"Now we know what we have to do to get to that point, and now we know what we have to do to take the next step," quarterback Tony Romo said after the disappointment suffered at the Metrodome.

Linebacker Bradie James acknowledges the pressure associated with wearing the helmet with the lone star. "We're always judged by championships here with all the great history and the tradition," he said at the start of the offseason. "We want to be remembered just like those other guys, Emmitt Smith, Moose (fullback Daryl Johnston) and all those guys. The only way you can do that is go out and win."

It should help that most of the key players return to an offense that piled up more than 6,000 yards for the first time in team history (6,390). The Cowboys erupted for 75 plays of 20-plus yards. They averaged a league-best 6.3 yards a play.

There used to be legitimate questions surrounding new Romo jersey. He answered many of those in 2009 by completing the most throws (347) for the most yards (4,483) in franchise history. Determined to reduce his turnovers, he was intercepted only nine times. Romo also proved his durability by becoming the first passer in club annals to take every snap, and he played big down the stretch by throwing at least one touchdown pass in each of the last 12 regular-season games.

But like his teammates, Romo cannot wait to redeem himself after the season ended on such a sour note. He lost two fumbles and was picked off in the loss to Minnesota.

"I'm sure when we get away from it, we'll be able to look back and see we improved in certain areas and have stuff to build on," he said after that drubbing.

Dallas' second-ranked offense could be more even prolific in 2010 as talented rookie wideout Dez Bryant joins a brew that already includes Romo, star tight end Jason Witten, breakout wide receiver Miles Austin and a talented troika of running backs.

Romo is cautiously optimistic about working with his dynamic new playmaker.

"Dez has a good feel for the game. He has great body control, and that's going to allow him to use his size and speed to an even better degree," Romo told NFL Network last week. "It's hard usually for young receivers to come right into the league and perform at a high level; you don't see that a ton. It happens every once in a while, but it's difficult."

Bryant is doing his best to quickly assimilate into his first pro offense.

"It's crazy — just a lot of weapons at one time on the field," he said after a practice in June. "It's going to be hard to stop. … It's exciting to be able to be out there with those guys.

"They're trying to get me to learn everything as soon as possible. I'm doing a good job, and it's just great."

Bryant's progress could determine how the team uses Roy Williams jersey, who has 57 catches in 25 games since joining the Cowboys midway through the 2008 season. Despite his struggles, the ever-confident Williams thinks Bryant will be hard-pressed to supplant him.

"I'm in it to win it. If somebody can pull in here and take my spot, they've got to be a baaad man," said Williams, who said he and Romo were connecting like Joe Montana and Jerry Rice this offseason. "It's mine to lose, I guess you can say. I'm not going to do that. The competition level is going to be high."

And despite getting sacked six times in the loss to the Vikings— longtime left tackle Flozell Adams missed most of the game with a calf injury — Romo is unfazed after Adams' release and the promotion of Doug Free to protect his blind side.

"We wouldn't have made the decision — the organization wouldn't have — if they didn't feel strongly in Doug and they didn't feel strongly in the offensive line," Romo said.

Left tackle Alex Barron was acquired from the St. Louis Rams in case Free flops.

But if the Cowboys flop, it could be a long time before they get another chance to play in a Super Bowl in their home stadium.

"I know where the Super Bowl is this year, and the owner knows where it is," all-pro linebacker DeMarcus jersey Ware said. "He lets us know where it is every time he talks to us. It's a big thing, and it's going to motivate us. If you are hosting a Super Bowl, why not play in it?"

Baltimore Ravens:Players with Falling Values

Derrick Mason, WR

He's back for at least one more go around, but things are drastically different for Mason now with the addition of Boldin. He'll be the clear second wide receiver option on passing plays and likely third option overall when you consider Ray Rice jersey coming out of the backfield in most passing formations.

Mason has been a dynasty league fixture for nearly a decade. At 36, his value now is as a No. 3 or No. 4 wide receiver at best.

Willis McGahee, RB

The long, strange trip of Willis McGahee continues this season. Most expected the Ravens to cut ties with McGahee this offseason, but they surprisingly decided to retain him. That's great news for the Ravens, and bad news for his dynasty owners.

Barring a Ray Rice injury, new McGahee jersey is going to spend a lot of time watching from the sidelines again this year. He may have one last shot in him, but it's likely not going to be in Baltimore. When you consider he's 29 years old, his options for resurrecting his value are going to be very slim in the future.

At this point, McGahee is simply a handcuff to Rice in dynasty leagues.

Todd Heap, TE

Heap is going to look back at his career and simply wonder what could have been. He's a superior athlete and one of the most natural pass catching tight ends the league has ever seen. Unfortunately, his career has been full of injuries.

He was still productive last year with 53 catches, 593 yards, and 6 touchdowns. Those numbers would have been really disappointing a few years ago, but at age 30, those are pretty realistic expectations now.

Heap is a No. 2 tight end for competing teams only. If you're rebuilding, there are many other options to build around.

LeRon McClain, RB

You have to really respect LeRon McClain. He went from being the lead back in  2008, rushing for 902 yards and 10 touchdowns, to a blocking fullback again in 2009. Unfortunately, respect isn't a stat measured in fantasy football.

McClain is still young at just 25, but the Ravens are locked into him being a fullback and possible short yardage compliment to Ray Rice. In fact, it would likely be McGahee who steps into a prominent role should Rice get hurt.

McClain belongs on waiver wires in shallow leagues.

Marc Bulger, QB

After being beaten to a pulp in St. Louis for the past few seasons, Bulger will be more than happy to hold a clipboard for Joe Flacco. He really only has value to Flacco football jerseys owners with dynasty teams who have no other real options at the quarterback position.

Mark Clayton and Demetrius Williams, WRs

These two were once thought to be the future starters at wide receiver for the new Ravens jerseys. Now it seems they're both squarely on the roster bubble. Oh, how cruel the NFL can be.

who are playing on a 3-4 defense?

Atlanta Falcons: End John Abraham(notes)  is not quite what he used to be, but he's still a great speed rusher off the edge. The problem is that the Falcons jerseys don't have enough interior help to get Abraham into more pass-rush situations. That was particularly true after they lost rookie tackle Peria Jerry(notes)  last year to injury. If Jerry returns, he makes everybody better, even end Jamaal Anderson(notes),  a guy who is keeping his head just barely above water. Barely!

New York Jets : Give the Jets a lot of credit last year for surviving the loss of nose tackle Kris Jenkins(notes), who is right behind the likes of Jay Ratliff and Vince Wilfork. Backup Sione Pouha(notes) was very impressive in subbing for Jenkings. Also, give end Shaun Ellis(notes) a lot of credit for succeeding in the 3-4 the past four years despite really being more of a 4-3 player. Ellis has great functional strength for his size, allowing him to play inside more. The problem with this line is that there's not very much depth and end Vernon Gholston(notes) has been a disaster. As great of a job as former coach Eric Mangini did in picking cornerback Darrelle Revis(notes), he did exactly the opposite when he pushed for 2008 first-rounder Gholston, a player who simply doesn't like football that much.

Detroit Lions: Yeah, yeah, I can hear it now: Some readers will think this is nothing more than a serious man-crush on No. 2 overall draft pick Ndamukong Suh(notes) and that Detroit shouldn't be ranked higher than 35th in a 32-team league (Alabama, Florida and USC might have better defensive lines, they would argue). Well, mock me while you can, but the Lions not only got a great player in Suh, but the additions of end Kyle Vanden Bosch(notes) and tackle Corey Williams(notes) make them a real line for the first time in years.

Arizona Cardinals: The Cardinals jerseysare aiming to play a 3-4 this season, which is probably wise after the departure of veteran Bertrand Berry(notes), who wasn't great, but was suited for a 4-3. The problem is that end Calais Campbell(notes), who made huge strides last season on his way to 7 sacks, and tackle Darnell Dockett(notes) are really better suited for a 4-3 scheme. That said, first-round pick Dan Williams(notes) seems best-suited for the nose spot at 6-foot-2, 325 pounds (not to mention some really short arms for a defensive lineman). At least the Cardinals have some interior depth with Gabe Watson(notes) and Alan Branch(notes).

Tampa Bay Buccaneers: OK, I have to admit right from the start that the Bucs don't have an end who is worth mentioning (they have placeholders in Tim Crowder(notes) and Stylez G White(notes)), but you have to love what the Bucs did with their first two picks in the draft, taking tackle Gerald McCoy(notes) and then following up with Brian Price(notes). McCoy may have a Warren Sapp(notes)-like impact in that he could make those around him much better, making it easier to find good ends.

San Francisco 49ers: The 49ers like to sell people on the greatness of Aubrayo Franklin(notes). Nice player, but more along the lines of Cincy's Domata Peko, a tough, hard-working sort. That leaves ends Isaac Sopoaga(notes) and Justin Smith(notes), who are both solid. Smith is terribly overpaid, but that's the nature of free agency in the NFL.

Do you think who is the best RB?

San Diego Chargers: This is probably putting more faith in Ryan Mathews(notes)  than any first-round pick deserves, but many scouts considered him the best prototype running back available in the draft this year. The Chargers definitely need that after letting LaDainian Tomlinson go this offseason.new Darren Sproles jersey(notes)  is still a terrific third-down back, but that's really all he is, a third-down guy. Sproles doesn't have the strength to break tackles at the line and has to operate primarily in open space. Mathews is a between-the-tackles runner with great passion and toughness.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers jerseys: A tip of the cap to Bucs leading rusher Cadillac Williams, who came back last season after suffering through injuries for two years. Still, it's not like Williams was all that electric, averaging only 3.9 yards per carry. Likewise, backups Derrick Ward and Earnest Graham(notes) were just roster flotsam. The Bucs have a bunch of guys who are nice backups at this point. They need somebody who can be a starter.

Detroit Lions: As with the San Diego and Mathews, the Lions are pinning a lot of hope on first-round pick Jahvid Best(notes). Best is a former California high school sprint champion who improved dramatically as a running back during his time at Cal. Best typifies the approach many NFL teams are taking at running back and on offense as a whole. He's a slashing runner who can create big plays in a hurry but may not be great at grinding out yards. With the new Lions jerseys expected to play a lot of spread formations, Best could be terrific, right there with the likes of Chris Johnson if all goes well.

New England Patriots: It was a tad surprising when the Patriots didn't spend a high pick in the draft on a running back. The Patriots have a collection of guys you might want on your team, such as Kevin Faulk(notes), Sammy Morris(notes) and Fred Taylor(notes). But even when you throw in leading rusher new Laurence Maroney jersey(notes), none of them stand out as a player you want to lean on. Maroney has been a huge disappointment and doesn't even fit into the New England's spread-offense philosophy anymore.

LB rankings

Buffalo: If inside linebacker new Paul Posluszny jersey(notes)  could just stay healthy, he'd probably be a star very quickly. Last season, he missed four games because of injury (he missed 13 as a rookie in 2007) and still had 110 tackles. Fellow inside man Kawika Mitchell(notes)  is a solid pro and should get pushed a little by Andra Davis(notes).  But the real question for the Bills is whether former defensive ends Chris Kelsay(notes)  and Aaron Schobel(notes)  will be able to make the transition to outside linebacker. When healthy, both have been solid pass rushers from the end spot. Now, they will have to play standing up all the time and sometimes in pass coverage.

Minnesota: Some people disagree with my belief that middle linebackers are basically replaceable parts in this era of the NFL, with even the very good ones being little more than pluggers. For proof of my contention, let's examine new E.J. Henderson jersey(notes), who missed the final four games of last season with an injury after being on pace for one of the best seasons of his seven-year career. The Vikings put Jasper Brinkley(notes) in the lineup after Henderson went down and didn't miss a beat, making it to within an overtime loss of reaching the Super Bowl. Anyway, Chad Greenway(notes) had another fine season and Ben Leber(notes) continues to be an above-average player. This group doesn't make a lot of big plays, but it works well behind the strong defensive line.

Baltimore: The Ravens once boasted one of the deepest, nastiest linebacking corps in the league. To be sure, they're still tough, but they have definitely lost their fastball. Ray Lewis jersey(notes) still knows the game so well that he can cover for his lack of speed. Terrell Suggs(notes) is coming off his worst season, both on and off the field. Tavares Gooden(notes) and Jarret Johnson(notes) are just guys and second-year outside linebacker Paul Kruger(notes) was disappointing as a rookie. Suggs better turn it around and Kruger better improve or this group is going to slip further.

San Diego: I get the bad feeling that Shawne Merriman(notes) will one day be one of those players we talk about in terms of what could have been. What could have been if Merriman hadn't gotten hurt at the end of the 2007 season, causing him to miss all of 2008 and then be almost invisible in 2009. new Merriman jersey had only four sacks last season, and they came during a two-game stretch in the middle of the season. He's still a nice player, but he's hardly "Lights Out" anymore. Shaun Phillips(notes) is purely a complementary player, meaning that backup outside linebacker Larry English(notes) better come along fast. The inside linebackers are really just beefy pluggers with the likes of Stephen Cooper(notes) and Brandon Siler(notes).
